Two Durham Regional Police Officers were recognized for their outstanding contributions in Haiti.

Cst. Patrick Paquette was presented with the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal by Chief Ewles at Regional Headquarters. Patrick spent over a year in Haiti where he served as a United Nations Police Officer. His mission involved assisting local police with their daily activities, working to build the gap between the police and local citizens and working with children. He also assisted in other activities aimed at bringing stability to the area.

Cst. Richard Fantinato was honoured by GlobalMedic, a foundation that provides disaster relief and builds programs around the world. Richard volunteered as part of their Rapid Response Team in 2008, assisting the flood victims of Haiti after Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike. He spent his time building water purifications systems and distributing supplies to victims of the flood. Cst. Fantinato also received a formal recognition from the Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, recognizing his efforts with the GlobalMedic team.

DRP would like to congratulate Patrick and Richard for their efforts.
