Serious Injury, Three Vehicle Collision in Oshawa

A 79-year-old Blackstock woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a three- vehicle collision on Wednesday afternoon in north Oshawa.

On Wednesday July 28, 2010 at approximately 3:30 p.m. officers from Central West Division were called to Ritson Road at Winchester Road in Oshawa regarding a three-vehicle collision. A Ford van travelling westbound on Winchester Road collided with a Lincoln, which was travelling northbound on Ritson Road. The Lincoln had stopped for the stop sign at Winchester Road and then attempted to cross north onto Ritson Road but was struck by the Ford van. The Lincoln vehicle then collided with a Chevrolet Uplander which was stopped on Ritson Road north of Winchester Road. The driver of the Lincoln was trapped and had to be removed by Emergency Fire and Rescue responders. The 79-year-old driver of the Lincoln was rushed to Lakeridge Health Oshawa with life-threatening injuries and was later transported to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto where she remains hospitalized. The male driver of the Ford van was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries but was later released. The driver of the Chevrolet Uplander was not injured.

Collision investigators from the Traffic Services Branch were called and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence and conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
