Male in Custody for Multiple Break-and-Enters

A male is in custody for breaking into at least five public schools in Durham Region following a property crimes investigation.

Between March and April of 2024 multiple schools in Durham Region were broken into.  Numerous items including laptops, computer monitors, and phone chargers were stolen. 

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, members of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch concluded their property crimes investigation and executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of George Street and Mitchell Avenue, in Oshawa.  The suspect was located at the residence and taken into custody without incident.  Police searched the residence and located numerous stolen items, including, laptops, tablets, headsets and projectors.  A second male located in the home was also taken into custody without incident, for possession of the stolen property.

Andrew MACAULAY, age 32 from Whitby is charged with: Break-and-Enter x5, Possess Break-in Instruments x5, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 x4, Posses Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possess Schedule I Substance (methamphetamine) x2, Possess Other Schedule III Substance, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x6.

Matthew Colin MCBRIDE, age 39 from Oshawa is charged with: Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possess Schedule I Substance (methamphetamine), and Possess Other Schedule III Substance.

MCBRIDE was released on an Undertaking. MACAULAY held for a bail hearing.
