38th Annual DRPS Children’s Games a Success
On Saturday, October 29, 2022, the DRPS Children’s Games celebrated its 38th year. To protect the health and safety of volunteers and athletes, a hybrid drive-thru event was planned with stations for athletes to drop off their pop tabs, pick up their Game Day in a Box, and even take some photos with special guests, including former NHL Maple Leaf , Glenn Healy and Deke, the mascot for the Oshawa Generals. Fire Dog Molly was also on hand for some furry high-fives, putting big smiles on the faces of our athletes. Tulip, the mini horse, greeted athletes and even got some good ear scratches.
Athletes and their families attended our drive thru event by appointment and started at the pick-up station where they picked up their ‘Game Day in a Box.’ Each box included a t-shirt, medal, lunch voucher, games package and all kinds of swag and goodies for the athletes to enjoy at home. From there athletes were cheered on to the pop tab station where they had an opportunity to drop off their tabs and take a photo with the Chief’s Cup and DRPS Auxiliary members. Athletes then had the opportunity to participate in the sport event stations, including, basketball, ring throwing, axe throwing, parachute and hockey.
Seventy-four athletes registered to attend and many of them came with bags full of pop tabs. A huge thank you to Committee members for all of their hard work and dedication, The City of Pickering staff, DRPS Auxiliary Officers, DRPS members and Associations, all of our Sponsors, volunteers and the athletes and their families. Next year we are hopeful that we will be able to host a full in-person event.
