Celebrating Black History Month

It was a full house at the "Together We Rise Durham: Excellence Through the Arts event on Thursday, February 2, 2023. DRPS co-hosted the event in partnership with The Regional Municipality of Durham, City of Pickering, Municipality of Clarington, Canadian Jamaican Club of Oshawa, The Power to Be International, Congress of Black Women - Oshawa/Whitby and DurhamOne will be hosting an in-person event to celebrate Black History Month.

The Black History Month event, held at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, showcased Black excellence through the arts and included performances by singer Leah Saumels and steel pannist Rashaana Cumberbatch. The standing room only event also included Spoken Word Poet Greg Frankson and Nadine WIlliams. 

A keynote address from Cameron Bailey, Chief Executive Officer, Co-Head and Artistic Director of The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) emphasized the powerful impact of art.
