Change of Command Ceremony
At a Change of Command Ceremony held earlier today in Ajax, Ontario, the Durham Regional Police Services Board welcomed its new Chief of Police, Peter Moreira.
“The Board is pleased to embrace with great enthusiasm our 9th Chief of Police of the Durham Regional Police Service, Peter Moreira,” said Board Chair Shaun Collier. “Chief Moreira brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to the position and we know that he will lead the DRPS with passion and excellence and inspire the trust of the membership and the community.”
The Change of Command ceremony was attended by a large number of dignitaries and honoured guests, including local elected representatives, community stakeholders, Police Chiefs from across Ontario, and greetings from the Parliamentary Assistant to the Solicitor General of Ontario, Mr. Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton. Video greetings from Premier Ford were also presented
The official swearing-in of Chief Moreira was presided over by Her Worship Martha De Gannes, Regional Senior Justice of the Peace. The event also included a smudging ceremony conducted by Councillor Jeff Forbes from the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, and concluded with the ceremonial passing of the sword, from Chief Rollauer to Chief Moreira, representing the official transfer in leadership.
The Board also offered its profound gratitude to outgoing Chief of Police Todd Rollauer. “Chief Rollauer earned the highest respect from DRPS members and the community during the course of his career, and especially during his tenure as Chief of Police since September 2020. We wish him the very best as he enters retirement,” added Chair Collier.
