Congratulations to DRPS’ 2024 Chief for a Day Winner

This morning Chief Peter Moreira visited St Paul Catholic School in Whitby to surprise this year’s Police Chief for a Day essay contest winner Jacob Hryniewski. At an assembly in front of the whole school, Chief Moreira called Jacob up to share the good news.

Hundreds of grade five students from across Durham Region submitted essays for the contest and 10 finalists were selected. The finalist visited DRPS Regional Headquarters to read their essays to a community panel of judges, including Chief Peter Moreira, DRPA President Andrew Tummonds, DRPS Police Service Board Chair Shaun Collier and members of the Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night (PADAN) Committee. The community panel then deliberated and selected Jacob as this year’s winner.

Jacob will serve as Chief for a Day on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 and will be a guest of honour at the Annual PADAN awards night on October 24, 2024 at Deer Creek in Ajax.
