Police are requesting the public's assistance in identifying a suspect involved in making a false 911 call reporting a male with a firearm near a high school in Bowmanville.
On February 27, 2025, at approximately 12:55 p.m., members from East Division responded to call reporting a male with a gun near Clarington Central Secondary School in Bowmanville. Police attended and confirmed that there was no threat at the high school.
The incident is suspected to be a case of "swatting," a practice involving deceptive or prank calls to emergency services with the intent of deploying a large police response to a location where no actual threat exists.
Investigation revealed that the male caller in this incident used a pay phone at a convenience store located at 2 Glenabbey Drive in Courtice.

The suspect is described as: male, White, 35-50 years old. He was wearing a camouflage baseball hat, black hoodie with white Under Amour logo, black pants and grey shoes.
He is associated to a 2016/2017 white Chevrolet Cruze four door sedan
