Driver Charged After Fatal Collision in Bowmanville
On Sunday, July 21st, 2024, at approximately 8:38 p.m., officers from East Division responded to a collision involving two motor vehicles and three pedestrians on Simpson Avenue in Bowmanville.
A grey Hyundai sedan was heading south on Simpson Avenue, when it hit a grey Hyundai Tucson SUV, which was also going south. The grey sedan then lost control, went over the curb onto the sidewalk, hitting three pedestrians including an infant.
The male pedestrian was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he was pronounced deceased. The female pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The infant pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The female passenger from the SUV sustained minor injuries.
Liam James Patrick Kendall, age 22 of Clarington is charged with Impaired Operation Cause Death, Impaired Operation cause Bodily Harm x3, Dangerous Driving Cause Death, Dangerous Driving Cause Bodily Harm x3, and Operate Motor Vehicle - No Insurance.
He was held for a bail hearing.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
