DRPS Launches 34th Annual Toy Drive
This morning DRPS kicked off its 34th annual Food and Toy Drive at Central West Division in Whitby.
DRPS Inspector Rob Bryan hosted the event along with the guest speakers, Chief Todd Rollauer, winner of Chief-for-a-Day, Gabriel Perrucci, and of course Santa!
Police Todd Rollauer thanked all the sponsors and volunteers that make the event possible. “Our volunteers contribute thousands of hours of work and cover more than twenty five thousand kilometres across the Region of Durham during the annual Food and Toy Drive. I want to thank you and let you know your efforts are appreciated.”
Long-time coordinator of the DRPS Food and Toy Drive, Constable Darryl Rice was on hand and has been instrumental in making the drive successful for the last six years. It is safe to say, that in excess of 30,000 individuals and families from across the region continue to benefit from the Annual DRPS Food and Toy Drive every year.
Throughout November and December donations can be dropped off at any DRPS Division, Regional Headquarters in Whitby, Clarington Fire Headquarters or any fire station in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Courtice.
The DRPS Food and Toy Drive is accepting "ALL" donations of non-perishable food items and new and unwrapped toys. There is an increased need for food this year as the food banks have seen a decrease in donations due to higher food costs.
Monetary donations may be made by cheque payable to Durham Regional Police -Food and Toy Drive. Cash donations will only be accepted at our cash boxes located at our five Regional Police Division Front Desks.
Businesses or individuals wishing to make large donations can contact the organizers, including the coordinator Cst. Darryl Rice, at drpft@drps.ca or (905)721-2999. Please allow 24 hours for response. The email and phone line is not monitored on weekends.
The Food and Toy Drive does not fill individual requests, but will assist in coordinating through a designated partnering Charitable organization.
