DRPS Welcomes New K9 Team

We are thrilled to welcome a new team to our K9 Unit. The DRPS K9 Unit is pleased to announce that, Detective Constable Dylan Dever and Police Service Dog Summit, have completed their basic patrol certification and are ready to report for duty.

PSD Summit is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois who was bred in Florida and imported to Canada by Grassroots K-9, , a Canadian business that breeds, imports and trains police dogs. The team spent 14 weeks in intensive training, certifying in numerous disciplines including tracking, building searches, evidence recovery, obedience, and handler protection.  

“Summit is a high-energy dog that is always smiling. I would like to acknowledge Grassroots K-9 for their expertise in his training. We are looking forward to our first shift together,” says D/Cst. Dever.

D/C Dever and Summit will be patrolling Durham Region as a members of “A” platoon.
