DRPS Welcomes New K9 Team
DRPS is thrilled to welcome a new team to our K9 Unit. The DRPS K9 Unit is pleased to announce that, Detective Constable Travis Rodgers and Police Service Dog (PSD) Brooks, have completed their basic patrol certification and are ready to report for duty.
PSD Brooks is a 17-month-old Dutch Shepherd who was born in Canada. He was bred by Grassroots K-9; a Canadian business that breeds, imports and trains police dogs. The team spent 14 weeks in intensive training, certifying in numerous disciplines including tracking, building searches, evidence recovery, obedience, and handler protection.
“Brooks is a quiet, calm and stable dog when at home or resting in his kennel... but when duty calls, Brooks consistently displays a confident intensity level that is second to none. An interesting trait of Brooks' is his unique ability to open his jaw extremely wide like a predatory snake. On his days off, he enjoys back rubs and a good game of tug-of-war. I would like to thank the DRPS training cadre and Grassroots K-9 for their expertise in his training and development. We look forward to enhancing public safety as we serve our community,” says D/Cst. Rodgers.
D/C Rodgers and Brooks will be patrolling Durham Region as members of “C” platoon.
