DRPS Welcomes New K9 Team

DRPS Welcomes New K9 Team

DRPS is thrilled to welcome a new team to our K9 Unit. The DRPS K9 Unit is pleased to announce that, Detective Constable (D/Cst.) Nathan Fulford  and Police Service Dog (PSD) Fenix, have completed their basic patrol certification and are ready to report for duty.

PSD Fenix is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois who came from Alabama. The team spent 21 weeks completing the rigorous and demanding OPP K9 Training Course. The intensive training included tracking for lost/missing person, criminal apprehension, obedience and evidence recovery.

“Fenix is a calm and stable dog but is always ready to go to work. On his days off, he enjoys scratches behind the ears, and a good game of tug-of-war or fetch. I would like to thank the trainers from the OPP K9 Training Cadre for their expertise in Fenix’s training and development. We are excited to serve the community of Durham,” says D/Cst. Fulford.

D/Cst. Fulford and Fenix will return to OPP for further training in Narcotic and Firearm/Ammunition detection in the near future but are now patrolling Durham Region as members of “A” platoon.

Welcome the DRPS family, PSD Fenix.
