Firearm and Prohibited Ammunition Seized During Traffic Stop in Pickering
A male is in custody after a loaded firearm and prohibited ammunition were located in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Pickering.
On Friday, August 2, 2024, at approximately 1:35 a.m., a member of the DRPS RIDE team initiated a traffic stop while conducting proactive patrol in the area of Dillingham Road and Brock Road. A check of the driver’s documents confirmed that he was a suspended driver and his vehicle was required to be impounded.
Officers searched the contents of the vehicle and located a loaded handgun hidden near the steering column as well as an extended magazine with prohibited ammunition in the rear of the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without incident.
Makaile RICHARDS, age 22 from Brampton is charged with numerous offences including: Possess Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, Occupy Motor vehicle with Firearm, Possess Restricted/Prohibited Firearm No Licence, Possess Prohibited Ammunition, Driving While Under Suspension, and Fail to Comply with Release Order x2.
He was held for a bail hearing.
