Firearm Seized During Traffic Stop

Police seized a firearm during a proactive traffic stop in Whitby.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at approximately 11:40 p.m., members of Central West Division were proactively patrolling the area of Thickson Road and Taunton Road East. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a southbound sedan and while speaking with the occupants, detected an odour of cannabis. Further investigation resulted in the search of the vehicle and occupants, where a firearm, ammunition and drugs were seized.

Keiran RUNCIMAN, age 21, of Whitby is charged with multiple offences, including:  Possess Firearm Other than Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possess Schedule IV Substance for Trafficking and Possess Schedule I Substance for Trafficking.

Kayla TORCHIA, age 22, of Whitby is charged with multiple offences, including: Possess Firearm Other than Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possess Schedule IV Substance for Trafficking and Possess Schedule I Substance for Trafficking.

Brenna HARVEY, age 20, of Scugog is charged with: Possess Firearm Other than Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possess Schedule IV Substance for Trafficking and Possess Schedule I Substance for Trafficking.

All three held for bail hearings.
