Five Males Arrested for Copper Theft in Clarington

Five males have been arrested after stealing a large amount of copper wire from a business in Clarington. 

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., members of East Division responded to a theft in progress call at a business located in the area of Lake Road and East Shore Drive.  Police received information that five males were loading a large amount of copper wire into the rear of a U-Haul cube van.  The suspect van fled the area prior to police arrival.

A short time later police located the van entering Highway 401, and initiated a traffic stop.  Officers checked the rear of the van and found several hundred pounds of copper wire.  Five suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Richard KISS, age 20 from Aurora is charged with: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, Break-and-Enter, and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.

Jozsef BABOS, age 37 from Ajax is charged with: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, and Break-and-Enter.

Norbert KIS, age 37 from Hamilton is charged with: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, Possess Break-In Instruments, and Break-and-Enter.

Krisztian KISS, age 23 from Aurora is charged with: Theft Under $5000.

Csaba LAKATOS, age 27 from Ajax is charged with: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, and Break-and-Enter.

All were released on an Undertaking.
