"Freezin For A Reason"

More than 40 plungers braved the cold water at the DRPS “Freezin for a Reason” plunge On Thursday, March 2, 2023.

The Polar Plunge, presented by DRPS’ Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee, is a fun opportunity to support Special Olympics Ontario athletes by taking a flying leap – into very cold water!

A giant bin was set up outside the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Centre in Pickering and filled with water just before the plungers started to arrive. A special thank you to the City of Pickering for hosting the event and Loft House Construction for building the platform for the plungers.

It was a fun day that has so far raised more than $21,000 to benefit Special Olympic Athletes from Durham Region.

DRPS’ goal was to raise $30,000 and we are just shy of that goal – but there is still time to donate. Donations will be accepted until the end of March.

Donations can still be made at https://soopolarplunge.crowdchange.ca/27855

Thank you to the Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee who made the event possible and to the plungers, donors and athletes who raised money for this very worthy cause.
