Homicide in Oshawa Claims Life of 62-year-old Male

DRPS investigators have arrested a second individual in connection with the murder of Steven TURGEON which occurred on January 22, 2024 in Oshawa.

Nathan Christopher LOPEZ, age 26 from Toronto is charged with: Second Degree Murder.

He was held for a bail hearing.

FIRST UPDATE RELEASE SENT ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2024

SUBJECT: UPDATE #1 Homicide in Oshawa Claims Life of 62-year-old Male

Investigators have released the name of the victim and one accused in Durham Region’s second homicide of 2024.

On Monday, January 22, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members from Central East Division were called to the area of Dean Avenue and Ritson Road South in Oshawa for reports of a disturbance.  Officers arrived on scene and located a 62-year-old male outside the residence suffering from obvious signs of trauma.  He was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Steven TURGEON, age 62 of Oshawa, died as a result of a stabbing.

Two suspects fled the area on foot.  Police located one of the suspects a short distance away and took him into custody without incident.  Police are still searching for the second suspect.

Tyler STEPHENS, age 32 from Clarington is charged with: Second Degree Murder.

ORIGINAL RELEASE SENT ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2024

SUBJECT: Homicide in Oshawa Claims Life of 62-year-old Male

One male is in police custody and a second male is outstanding in Durham Region’s second homicide of 2024.

On Monday, January 22, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members from Central East Division were called to the area of Dean Avenue and Ritson Road South in Oshawa for reports of a disturbance.  Officers arrived on scene and located a 62-year-old male outside the residence suffering from obvious signs of trauma.  He was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow morning. 

Officers received information that two suspects had fled the area on foot and were able to locate one of the suspects a short distance away.  He was taken into custody without incident.  The K9 unit assisted with an evidence search of the area.

The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is asking for anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to please contact police.
