Join DRPS for Polar Plunge 2025

DRPS is hosting our annual Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics and inviting the community to take a leap with us – a leap into very cold water!

The Polar Plunge is a fun opportunity to support Special Olympics Ontario athletes and we are hoping this will be our best year yet!

Last year’s event raised $25,000 to support more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes across Ontario.  We are inviting everyone to join us this year and help us reach our goal of raising $50,000. If you are ready to take the plunge, you can enter individually or as a team. Everyone is welcome! Registration is $40 or fundraise $100 to waive the registration fee.

We are calling on our first responder colleagues from fire, paramedics, as well as teachers and businesses from across Durham Region to enter a team and fundraise to help us reach our goal.

This year, the entire DRPS Command team will be braving the icy water. Chief Peter Moreira, Deputy Chiefs Kirkpatrick and Yeandle, Acting Deputy Chief Courneyea, Chief’s Counsel Larry Viera and CAO Stan MacLellan will all take the plunge to raise money for Special Olympics.

The Durham Regional Police “Freezin for a Reason" plunge will take place Saturday March 22, 2025 at the Tribute Communities (99 Athol Street East, Oshawa). Participants will be plunging into a pool outside the main entrance on Athol Street. Check-in starts at 10:00 a.m. and plunging starts at 11:00 a.m.. All registrants must check-in before plunging.

Are you brrr-ave enough?
