Male Arrested for Bank Fraud in Pickering
A male has been arrested after he attempted to open a bank account with a forged passport in Pickering.
On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at approximately 10:50 a.m., members of West Division responded to a fraud in progress call at the Scotiabank located at 2460 Brock Road. A male entered the bank and attempted to open an account using a Sri Lankan passport, which was determined to be fraudulent. Police arrived on scene and took the male into custody without incident.
Kapilarusu KARUNANEEDI, age 31 from Whitchurch-Stouffville is charged with: Possess Forged Passport x2, Utter Forged Document x4, Personation to Gain Advantage x2, Possess Identity Information for Fraudulent Offence x2, and Attempt Fraud Under $5000 x2.
He was released on an Undertaking.
