A male is in custody after he was seen carrying a firearm and barricaded himself in an Oshawa residence.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at approximately 10:55 a.m., members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Colborne Street West and Kaiser Crescent. The suspect was observed carrying a firearm into an apartment complex. Police confirmed the unit the suspect entered and set up a perimeter around the complex. Initial attempts by negotiators to have the suspect surrender himself were unsuccessful. Four other persons were determined to be inside the unit.

While containing the residence, officers observed two firearms being thrown off the suspect’s balcony. Police recovered the two firearms and determined they were airsoft replicas.

A short time later negotiators successfully had all occupants exit the apartment unit.
Five individuals, including the suspect, were taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was executed on the apartment unit, and a third firearm was found submerged in a mop bucket. This firearm was also determined to be an airsoft replica.

After further investigation, four of the occupants were released from police custody unconditionally.
