Male in Custody for Making Threats with Handgun in Oshawa

A male is in custody after he threatened a female with a handgun in Oshawa.

On Sunday, September 1, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Olive Avenue and Keewatin Street South.  A male attended the residence of a female and made threats toward her while pointing a handgun.  The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, officers, with the assistance of the Offender Management Unit (OMU), located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.  A search warrant was executed at the residence the suspect was staying in.  A significant amount of cocaine was located in the possession of the suspect, and a replica firearm was located in the residence.

This was an isolated incident.

Don-Neil HALSTEAD, age 28 of No Fixed Address is charged with numerous offences including: Assault, Possess Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine), Uttering Threats, Possess Firearm No Licence, Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public, Point Firearm, Careless Storage of a Firearm, and Use Firearm During Commission of an Offence.

He was held for a bail hearing.
