Police Investigating Hate-Motivated Mischief in Whitby

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after swastikas were etched in the washroom of a Whitby library.

On Friday, January 10, 2025, members of Central West Division responded to a call for hate-motivated graffiti in the public washroom at the Central Whitby Library located at 405 Dundas Street West.  An employee located several small swastikas etched on the wall in the washroom. Officers attended but were unable to identify any suspects.

On Monday, January 27, 2025, officers were called to the Central Whitby Library after staff located two more swastikas etched into the washroom.

An investigator from DRPS’ Central-West Division Criminal Investigation’s Branch attended the library on Tuesday January 28, 2025 to review video footage from the previous incidents. While there, staff located another swastika etched into the wall of the bathroom.
