Police Seeking Witnesses or Other Victims After Male Stabbed on DRT Bus
A male is recovering after being stabbed on a Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus early Saturday in Oshawa.
On Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at approximately 3:10 a.m., members of Central East Division responded to the area of King Street West and Stevenson Road for reports of a male being stabbed on a DRT bus. A male suspect approached a passenger, who was unknown to him, and stabbed him twice before fleeing the bus. Police located the male a short distance away and he was taken into custody without incident. The victim was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers are also investigating a second incident with the same suspect that occurred on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at approximately 5:45 a.m., in the area of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue on a DRT bus. The suspect was observed assaulting an elderly male passenger. Officers were able to locate the accused, however, the victim left the scene prior to speaking to police.
Investigators are urging anyone who was involved in an incident with this male to come forward to police.
Corey VASKAMP, age 29 of Oshawa is charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x4.
