St Patrick’s Day RIDE Results in Seven Arrests for Impaired Driving

Between Saturday, March 15, 2025 and the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 18, 2025, members from DRPS Traffic Services and all five DRPS Divisions conducted a number of RIDE initiatives for St. Patrick’s Day and its related festivities. Over the three- day period, our officers worked tirelessly to ensure roadway safety in Durham Region and removed seven impaired drivers from the roads. This is far too many.

The results from the RIDE initiatives are as follows:

1623 Vehicles were stopped by RIDE
116   People were given Roadside Breath Tests
4       People received “3 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
1       Novice Driver received a 3, 7 or 30-day licence Suspension.
7       People were charged with Impaired/ Exceed/ Refuse
11     Impaired related Criminal Code Charges
62     Provincial Offences Act offences were laid

 

Thank you to all residents who called in suspected impaired drivers, we are all responsible in the fight against impaired driving. “If you see something, say something.” Impaired driving is an emergency, please call 9-1-1 if you suspect an impaired driver.

Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with a drinking and driving criminal offence will have their driver’s license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded automatically for seven days.
