Summer R.I.D.E. Results- Week 2
Summer R.I.D.E. Results
Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) completed its second weekend of the Summer R.I.D.E program, stopping more than 1,700 vehicles and charging 10 drivers with impaired driving offences.
DRPS officers conducted R.I.D.E checks throughout the Region of Durham with one goal: roadway safety. Although this program focuses on impaired related offences, the overall goal is to ensure the safety of the roadways within our region.
While the vast majority of motorists are abiding by the rules and regulations, far too many are still driving impaired.
The weekend’s Summer R.I.D.E totals are as follows
1,703 Vehicles stopped by R.I.D.E.
49 People given Roadside Breath Tests
4 People received “3, 7 or 30 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
10 People were charged with Impaired Driving Offences
8 Other Criminal Code Charges
During one of the mobile R.I.D.E. lines, officers located and seized a loaded handgun, a reminder of the dangers our officers face.
We would like to thank all residents who called to report impaired drivers. Please remember: If you see it, report it – it could save a life. If you suspect an impaired driver, please call 911 and provide as many details as possible. Vehicle make and model, direction of travel and the licence plate when possible.
A complete list of those charged with Impaired/Exceed has been posted on our website at www.drps.ca under Ride Results and can be viewed here:
Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with a criminal impaired driving offence will have their driver’s licence suspended for ninety days and their vehicle impounded automatically for seven days.
