Two Firearms Seized During Traffic Stops this Week
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has seized two guns during two separate traffic stops this week. These two incidents remind us of the dangers our officers face every time they conduct a traffic stop, and that no traffic stop is routine. One of the firearms was located by a member of the Summer R.I.D.E. program during a R.I.D.E check.
A 22-year-old male from Brampton and a 30-year-old male of no fixed address are facing multiple charges. Both were in violation of court mandated bail conditions from a previous incident.
Since July 1, 2024, DRPS front-line officers have seized six guns – four of these guns were located during four separate proactive traffic stops. As a result of these gun seizures, seven people are facing charges – five of those individuals were in violation of court mandated bail conditions from previous incidents.
The long weekend is expected to be a busy one across the Region and our R.I.D.E. team will be out ensuring our roadways are safe. We encourage anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 9-1-1.
