UPDATE #1 A female is in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Vehicle in Whitby
On Saturday, Sept 7, 2024, at approximately 6:20 a.m., a female pedestrian was struck by a silver Jaguar sedan in the area of Consumer Drive and Paisley Court, in Whitby. The Jaguar failed to remain and fled the area. As a result of the collision the female suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
On Monday, Sept 9, 2024, investigators from the Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) located the Jaguar sedan at a residence in Whitby. A warrant was issued and the vehicle was seized. As a result of the seizure officers were able to identify the driver.
On Wednesday, Sept 11, 2024, the suspect driver was located by CIU Investigators at a residence in Whitby, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Courtney Lawrence RITCHIE, age 40 from Whitby is charged with numerous offences including: Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Cause Bodily Harm, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident Cause Bodily Harm, Drive While Disqualified - Criminal Code x3, Drive While Under Suspension x3, Operate Motor Vehicle No Insurance, and Operate Unsafe Vehicle.
He was held for a bail hearing
