YIP’s Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Durham Regional Police Service’s Youth in Policing (YIP) students participated in the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) walk and raised more than $16,000 in support of North House!

All money raised will support individuals experiencing homelessness within rural and northern areas of Durham Region. North House is a non-profit organization in Uxbridge that provides support and resources to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. They offer various types of assistance, such as providing shelter, aiding with housing, and referring individuals to community resources, all aimed at helping people regain stability.

CNOY is an annual nationwide fundraiser to raise money for people in the community experiencing homelessness, hunger, and hurt. This year, the event raised $13.3 million. YIP is pleased to have played a role in contributing to this achievement.

YIP has been fundraising with CNOY annually since 2014 and has raised more than $150,000 to date! This year, the YIP team's goal was to raise $15,000, through their determination and hard work, they reached and surpassed that goal! The YIP fundraising team placed  first out of 18 teams in Uxbridge and 42nd out of 6,323 nationally!

In recognition of their fundraising achievement, the YIP team, DRPS members, and Deputy Chief Kirkpatrick gathered at North House in Uxbridge to brave the five kilometre walk in -9° weather for the “Coldest Night of the Year”. The walk gives participants insight into the challenges faced by those who do not have a warm place to stay during the winter.

The YIP team did a fantastic job fundraising to support those in need while bringing communities together. Thank you to the North House team for their continued support.
